The shortlist for the British Soap Awards has been revealed.
The ceremony, which first began in 1999, celebrates all things soap opera – but was notably absent last year.
After Jane McDonald took over hosting duties from Phillip Schofield in 2023, it was announced that the awards would be rested.
Following the release of the longlist for the awards, we’re now a step closer to the event itself, with the shortlist being revealed today.

The ceremony will focus on the past year in soapland, which featured Gail Platt (Helen Worth) leaving Coronation Street, Hollyoaks jumping forward a year, EastEnders celebrating 40 years on our screens, and Emmerdale airing that dramatic frozen lake stunt.
The categories that are voted by the viewers are Best British Soap, Villain of the Year, Comedy Performance and Leading Performer. It’s in the latter category that Coronation Street are missing a nomination, with Emmerdale and EastEnders having two each.
